Green Beach is based in San Diego, California. We are a collection of Americans grateful to those who sacrificed their lives for our well being.
The Green in Green Beach
Green Beach homes use energy efficient methods and sustainable building materials to maximize energy conservation and provide a clean environment.
Our homes feature the latest green technologies such as solar electric energy, tankless water heaters, cotton insulation, OSB plywood, low or no VOC paint, energy star rated appliances and LEED certification where possible.
Landscaping includes drought tolerant or native plants with low spray and drip irrigation along with solar irrigation controls.
Homes are sited to allow for heat gain in the winter and shade in the summer. Whole house fans will help to cool the homes and skylighting will help reduce the use of artificial lighting.
Barrier Free Homes
The core of our mission is to provide green
homes that meet the special needs of disabled Veterans. Features include ramps or no trip thresholds at all entryways, 36 inch wide doors with 44 inch wide hallways. Bathrooms are fully accessible including roll in shower stalls with grab bars, lavatories that have leg room below, and plenty of turnaround space. Kitchen cabinets and cooking surfaces are set at the appropriate height allowing for comfort while using. Doors are either sliders or have lever hardware and all switches will be placed at just the right height. S
pecial design features due to the Veterans‘ specific injuries are integrated into the home design allowing a more independent lifestyle providing the best living experience for the Veterans. Other design considerations take into account the need for special equipment such as physical therapy machines, pulleys for moving Veterans and other technologies. And finally, these homes take into consideration the needs of the important caregivers who assist these Veterans in their everyday lives.
Inspiration Behind the Name
Americans are familiar with the image of six courageous Marines raising the American flag on the top of Mount Suribachi during the battle for Iwo Jima. At the foot of Mount Suribachi is a lesser known place called Green Beach.
